Dog Pee On Your Lawn
We’ve all seen a beautiful, lush lawn scattered with some brown eyesores near the backdoor. It kind of ruins the aesthetic of your backyard. Fortunately, we have some quick tricks you can try to fix these spots.
What does dog pee do to a lawn?
Dog pee contains high amounts of nitrogen and salt. When a dog pees in an area repeatedly, it leaves too much nitrogen and salt in one area and burns the grass. Initially, the urine spots look greener and grow faster than the surrounding grass. However, over time, the grass gets overwhelmed by the urine and turns brown.
How can I prevent dog urine spots?
There are several ways to approach this problem. You will probably have to try several methods before you find one that fits your dog. Here are a few ideas:
Leash your dog to a different area.
Block off the area with large object when your dog goes to pee.
Use a pee post. A few fire hydrant pee posts have good ratings on Amazon.
Encourage your dog to drink more water by keeping the water bowl clean and filled with fresh water. You can also reward your dog when it drinks.
Water the spot after your dog pees. Water will help spread the pee so that it’s not overly concentrated in one area.
How can I fix a dog spot?
If the grass is still alive, you can force your dog to pee in a different area, spray a grass paint on the area, and wait for it to recover.
If the grass is dead, reseed or resod the area when the temperature is moderate.
